I’m tall, scary, and a little fun…. what am I? You guessed it, I’m Drop Line at Dollywood! Dollywood is a really fun amusement park where you can ride roller coasters and do all kinds of fun things! I go there almost every summer! When I was at Dollywood last summer, a new ride was out called Drop Line. I really wanted to ride it, but I was so scared. When I got on the ride I was shaking like crazy! I closed my eyes until we got to the top, but about 10 seconds after being at the top….SWOOSH! The ride dropped! When the ride was over I was crying, but I was proud of myself for at least trying it out. If you’re scared of something, give it a try, you might like it! I still don’t like Drop Line but once again at least I went on it and tried. That’s all that matters!

Have you done something thing that makes you proud of yourself? I have before. It was when I completed Extra Math. Extra Math is a program online that helps you learn your basic math facts. I completed addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. I was even the first girl to complete Extra Math and now I get to go to a party. I hope you now know what I did that made me proud of myself.

One time I was proud of myself was when I asked someone to be my friend in 2nd grade. I was a shy kid in 2nd grade. I still kind of am today. Walking up to my friend was really tough, but I got through it pretty well. I’m not going to say her name because of her privacy. Today she is still my friend even though it was 2 years ago. We are actually BFFs right now. That was a time I was proud of myself.

I was so nervous when I went down a big water slide. There was a big line behind me. I had no choice, so I went. It was so fun after I went. I slid so many times after that. I was so proud of myself because I faced my fears. I had so much fun.

My first most proud thing I’ve done, which sounds dumb and silly. I play this game called Minecraft. It has a mini game called “Bed Wars.” It’s where you destroy other player’s beds and protect yours! And if you don’t, there’s an automatic death at the end of four or five minutes. I was playing “Bed Wars” and for the first time by myself destroyed everyone’s bed! I was really happy and proud, so I went to go tell my family members in my dad’s house. Also you can choose to be by yourself or with one or more people! My second proudest moment is when I actually drew a pretty good drawing for the first time! Even though my mom and dad told me over and over that my art was great, I still thought my art could improve and be much better than my art when I was very young. I still do to be honest. I know this was really only supposed to be one proudest thing you’ve done, but I had to share my two most proud things I’ve done! I love video games, drawing, and painting! Speaking of painting, the first time I painted I was trying to make a Mother’s Day card! That’s my two most proud things I’ve done!

I went on a canoe for the first time.

If you were me, you might just yell in sea water, because I was 7, and a massive wave crashed on top of me, 40 feet out. It swept me, like a broom, all 40 feet back to Myrtle Beach. I was hit almost 5 feet under water, I swam like a swan to the surface and managed to stay on the surface all the way to the beach. I got water and sand in my eyes and they hurt forever. It hurt me mentally and physically. That is why I am proud, swimming on the surface for 10 minutes.

When I was three I got a bike. I was so excited to ride it. So my dad and I came out there and he spotted me so I didn’t fall or any of that. But I could never get the hang of balancing. The thing is, there were training wheels!! But at the like, the fifteenth try I got it! I was freaking out because at that time I was riding by myself on my bike. I was so happy! I was so happy when that happened.

With only a few seconds left the Lakers were up by one point. I had the ball. So it was either pass and for sure lose or shoot. I shot. To me it all happened in slow motion. It somehow banked in. Screams spread across the gym at lightning speeds. We had just won the game! That was a time I was really proud of myself.

HOLSTON VALLEY MIDDLE

A time where I felt really proud of something I did is when I helped put away bicycles in my yard. Another thing I helped with is to put the lawn equipment away. I also helped with other stuff like picking up and moving bricks around my yard. I also helped pick up cans to haul them off.

I am proud that I am doing sports. The sport I am playing is softball. It is fun and I can make new friends. I play for the Lady Rebels softball team. But I am proud that I get a chance to be on a team.

I felt very proud of taking my ACT. It is a very important test that was extremely difficult. Considering that I am only thirteen and most take this test at sixteen. I was exceptionally proud. It was cool to now understand what the test will be like. There was also a lot of high school students there as well, so I was a little nervous at first. But in the end, it was not so bad.

A time I was proud of myself is when I was with my grandma which was a couple days ago. She started coughing up blood. I ran and told my uncle while I was on the phone with the ambulance. He was outside trying to clean his car. Now she is in the hospital getting good care and hopefully she can come home soon.

Our girls’ varsity team this year was awesome. We had so much fun through the months and worked really hard to improve our flaws. So, one night at a home game we were playing a good team and sprinting to get up and down the court. Kara, our point guard, chucked the ball to me with about 10 seconds on the clock. I run and hit the backboard, making it 32 to 30. The whole team was happy and especially me.

One thing I was proud of is helping my mom cook dinner and cleaning my room. And the reason I felt really proud of myself for doing this is because I love helping my mom. The reason I felt proud of myself for cleaning my room is because she didn’t have to tell me to clean my room. I already did it.

When I was around eleven my younger brother needed a fresh new cut. While I waited on brother to get done, I figured that it was a great time to go Christmas shopping. I started glancing down every aisle until I saw something that really stood out. As I got closer to the sport/outdoor aisle, and older woman had dropped everything out of her purse. Rushing to help her, I left the cart to hear her say, “God bless you.” That evening I knew that it was a great thing that she stood out. I believe that every young person or even most old people should learn to respect those around them no matter what. Until that day I finally got the sense of strength saying that anything is possible.

I remember the first time I got all A’s on my report card. This was in second grade and it wasn’t really that hard because at the time my teacher loved to read books. Eventually she made a book club for the class which led to us reading all of a series. Another good thing was that she liked to cook foods from around the world, little snacks for us to enjoy. She was one of the best teachers I’ve had since I’ve been in school.

Thanksgiving 2018. On that morning we went hunting. At 7:30 am a buck stepped out. He stopped to a quick call and I pulled the trigger. I saw him run toward a fence then turn on a dime before running 30 yards before dropping. I heard him crash but didn’t see him. I was starting to second guess myself when I saw him. I made a perfect double lung shot and he ran about 80 yards before dropping.

A time I felt really proud of something I did is when I learned to roller skate. I was having my 9th birthday at a roller skating rink in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was very scared at first, but my mom held my hand. I fell a lot, but still got up and tried again. I look up to my mom because she has taught me a lot of things in my life.

A time I felt proud of something was when I drew my favorite anime character, Sasuke Uchiha. Sasuke is from a TV show called Naruto. One of the many reasons I was proud was because I spent a really long time on it—four days. Even when I messed up, everyone was extremely supportive which in the end, helped me to finish it.
Caleb Smithson, 7th, Holston Valley Middle, Mrs. Taylor

Something I was really proud of was helping my neighbors with their groceries. My neighbors are really nice. They have a son my age that I would always hang out with. One time they even took my bowling. I felt that since they would do stuff for me, I would do a lot for them. Back during the summer I would help with their groceries and also hung out with their son. Recently, they moved so I can’t really talk to them, but I can call my friend. That is something I felt really proud of.

The time I felt really proud of something I did was when I tried out for basketball. This is something I am proud of because usually I am shy and don’t step out of my comfort zone. For this, I did so I could prove to myself that I could do anything I wanted. That’s why I am proud of trying out for basketball.
