Welcome, teachers and students! Please join us in the world of Newspaper In Education. We have a valuable and fun educational program to share with you.
Who?
Area students and teachers are reading, thinking, and writing with the daily newspaper.
What?
We have a well-rounded, educational program that supports the work of educators with
newspaper subscriptions, a student writing column, curriculum materials, and an art contest.
When?
Throughout the entire year, NIE is a vital presence in area schools. The regular program runs from August to May.
Where?
We operate in a seven county area in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.
Why?
Our goals are:
- To promote good citizenship and active participation in our democracy.
- To assist in the development of academic skills.
- To develop the next generation of newspaper readers.
How?
Teachers may order newspapers which are used to teach students of varying ages and abilities. The cost for student newspapers is 25¢ per copy. Limited sponsorship is available. Email the NIE office today at nie@timesnews.net and we will be glad to help you enroll in Newspaper In Education!
